Come Enjoy the Walker County Butterfly Festival This October

Fall is the time of year when monarch butterflies pass through Texas on their way to Mexico. They’ll remain there for the winter until they return north in the spring. The Master Gardeners of Walker County welcome all of Huntsville, Texas and surrounding areas to join them in celebrating this annual event at the upcoming Walker County Butterfly Festival. Aside from educational looks at the beautiful monarch butterflies, visitors will also find tons of fun activities for the whole family. Best of all – it’s a free event!

The festival will take place on October 22nd from 8 in the morning until 1 in the afternoon, so make sure you get up early to make the most of your day. The main event will be the monarchs themselves, which will be captured, tagged, and released so they can continue their long journey, but other activities on the schedule include educational speakers, crafts for the kids, and more.

Additionally, if you have a green thumb, the Walker County Butterfly Festival will be a great place for you to go. The Master Gardeners are experts on all things green and can give you advice on when and what to plant in your own garden. Plus, lots of plants will be going on sale at noon, so make sure you get your hands on a new, leafy friend before you leave.
