Buying a compact car can be a fantastic choice, even for those with more than one passenger. While drivers who are used to large vehicles may find them cramped at first, there are many benefits to compact cars that make them well worth having a little less space. Here are a few reasons to buy a compact car from us here at Wiesner of Huntsville.
Compact cars are some of the most affordable models on the market thanks to their size and weight. Generally starting at under $20,000 for a near-top trim, compact cars are affordable to first-time buyers, families on a budget, and drivers who don’t need a large vehicle.
Arguably the best reason to buy a compact car, most drivers seek high fuel economy and few models meet their needs like compact cars. The 2017 Chevrolet Sonic, for example, earns up to an EPA-estimated 34 hwy mpg.
Despite popular belief, compact cars often come with plenty of pep that makes them fun to drive. While they may not be sports cars, a compact car can offer a thrilling ride all the same since they are so light.
The standard small sedan offers precision handling, especially if there’s a sport-based model, like the Sonic RS. The lightweight design offers a quick response time and a turbocharged engine can provide high fuel economy while putting plenty of power to the road.
No matter why you’re thinking about getting a new compact car, stop by our Huntsville, TX dealership to take one for a test drive today!
Ford and General Motors first announced that they would team up to develop two new transmission back in 2013. Now, as 2017 rolls around, we’re seeing the true fruits of their labor. General Motors unveiled plans to launch 10 new models with a new nine-speed transmission by the end of 2017.
Chevrolet will see four models debut with the new transmission throughout the year. The new nine-speed transmission offers a three percent increase in fuel economy over the older six-speed automatic transmission. Automakers are adding more gears to their transmissions across the board in order to comply with federal emissions regulations.
The Chevrolet nine-speed transmission first debuted in the 2017 Malibu Premier with a turbocharged engine. The 2017 Cruze diesel, with its 1.6-liter diesel engine, will come with the new transmission as well. The 2018 Equinox, equipped with a turbocharged engine as well, will round out the first three. Chevrolet has yet to reveal the fourth model.
The other transmission, a 10-speed automatic, made its official debut in the Ford F-150 and Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 muscle car. That transmission is designed for performance in rear-wheel drive vehicles while the nine-speed transmission brings increased fuel economy in front-wheel drive models.

When it comes to safety systems, none is more vital than the braking system. Responsible for slowing down and stopping to prevent an accident, the braking system is one of the more complicated items to maintain. The brake pads don’t wear at a given rate, instead depending on where and how you drive. Fortunately there are a few signs they need attending to. Here at Wiesner of Huntsville, we know all of the signs you need new brakes and will be happy to help in any way we can!
Signs You Need New Brakes:
- Sound – If you hear a squealing or high-pitched screeched when you hit the brakes, make a service appointment immediately. That sound is caused by metal scraping metal and indicates that the brake pads are nearly gone. For your safety and the safety of others, have your brake pads replaced sooner rather than later.
- View – In most vehicles, you can look through the wheel spokes to see the brake pad. The outer portion will be pushed up against the rotor. If the pad looks to have less than a quarter inch remaining, make a service appointment.
- Feel – If it takes a while to slow down, the brake pads are likely worn down and are becoming unresponsive. On the other hand, if the pedal sinks to the floor, it’s a sign that there’s a leak somewhere in the braking system. Either way, it’s important to have a technician inspect your brakes.
In 2009, the Texas Commission of the Arts began designating specific cultural districts throughout the state. One of the first of seven of these new arts districts was the Huntsville Cultural District. This downtown area in Huntsville, Texas, offers everything from historic, preserved architecture to live theater performances. Residents and visitors alike are invited to discover these historical gems.
What can I do there?
Aside from the historical buildings, there are also new buildings in the Huntsville Cultural District. Architect Dan Phillips created them all from recyclable materials, which adds to the appeal. Additionally, many of the downtown buildings have been given an extra artistic touch by Richard Haas. Haas painted several murals throughout the district.
The cultural district has artist studios and workshops for the creative types, but those who don’t want to exercise their creative skills still have options. You can also visit museums, theaters, art galleries, and any number of events and festivals in the area.

You’ve probably heard Cadillac’s slogan of “Dare Greatly” over the past couple years. The phrase perfectly embodies the automaker’s philosophy on life, driving, and creating vehicles. After all, what of value will you assign to a product without taking a great risk?
What does “Daring Pursuits” mean to me?
To show how that philosophy is seen in different walks of life, Cadillac is applying the “Dare Greatly” adage to a new marketing campaign called “Daring Pursuits.” Showcasing the experiences and efforts of “passionate creators,” Cadillac’s latest wave of digital ads will feature a visual artist, a furniture designer, and a balloon artist.
“ Daring Pursuits represents the unpredictable nature and process of creativity, which has been a central theme of the ‘Dare Greatly’ brand platform since it launched in 2015,” said Ray Warren, Cadillac’s global manager of social media and digital advertising. “This latest extension, ‘Daring Pursuits,’ appeals to audiences who are entrepreneurial and unwilling to settle.”
In the process of the “Daring Pursuits” advertisements, viewers will learn about the exciting new 2017 Cadillac XT5. Customers can buy this new model at Wiesner of Huntsville. This is in addition to our other new and used Cadillac, Chevrolet, Buick and GMC inventory. All new 2017 are to be available once they are release and ready to drive!
There’s a lot to do in the greater Huntsville, Texas area. One of our favorite destinations is the incredible Sam Houston National Forest. Less than a half hour drive south of Wiesener of Huntsville, the sprawling 163,000 acres of protected trees is an excellent weekend destination. Following are some of the best activities to do in Sam Houston National Forest.
Of course, what better way is there to see the natural beauty of the forest than to get out there and hike? You’ll find multiple scenic walks here, including the acclaimed 128-mile Lone Star Hiking Trail.
Both Lake Livingston and Lake Conroe are great for fishing enthusiasts. They are located within the park grounds and are known for their black bass population and year-round fishing opportunities.
If you’re not interested in hunting, you can view and appreciate the many protected animals living in the habitat of Sam Houston Forest. You’ll never know what will cross your path!
The multi-use trail in the Sam Houston Forest is available for hiking and horseback riding, but that’s not all. It’s particularly popular as the only trail open to Off-Highway Vehicles in Texas’ multiple national forests.
Unfortunately, we become aware of many vehicle issues after it’s too late. Either they leave us stranded or we are caught unawares and forced to rush to get service. That’s when you find out who your real friends are, when you are on the phone saying, “Hi… I hate to bother you but… Can you pick me up at the repair shop?” All of the sudden, everyone you know and love is just too busy to help.
Don’t worry, though—Chevrolet is there for you. The automaker has created a service that can actually make you aware of an issue before it becomes an issue. These alerts are available in 2016 Chevy Silverado, Tahoe, Suburban, Corvette and Equinox vehicles.
So, What Exactly Does It Do?
Chevrolet vehicles are full of high-tech sensors. As these sensors collect information, they constantly analyze the flow of data to look for anomalies. If certain changes in the fuel pump, starter motor and/or 12 volt battery are detected, then the new OnStar Proactive Alerts system will let you know.
At that point, you can make an appointment with a service specialist. They can then have the issue resolved before you experience any inconvenience. Wiesner of Huntsville is ready to take care of your vehicle!
