The GMC Sierra 1500 has a number of engine options available for the 2020 model year, including the new Duramax 3.0-liter Turbo-Diesel engine. This motor nicely balances power with fuel-efficiency.
Power and capability
The Duramax Turbo-Diesel engine connects with a 10-speed automatic transmission to achieve 277 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. As such, the available engine allows you to have smooth drives on adventures both on and off the road.
When properly equipped, the four-wheel model can haul a maximum payload of 1,830 pounds and tow up to 9,100 pounds. While in Tow/Haul mode, the exhaust brake and transmission can help you maintain stability when traversing steep hills.
When you opt for the two-wheel-drive model, the engine gets an EPA-estimated 23 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway.* The engine can accordingly help you save money on fuel over time. In addition, its block is comprised of lightweight cast aluminum alloy, which leads to a 25 percent savings in mass when compared to a cast-iron engine block.
The Turbo-Diesel engine utilizes start/stop technology so that the engine can turn off when you’re at a red light. Active Thermal Management helps the engine stay at the optimal temperature to further reduce fuel consumption.

*Requires available 3.0L Turbo Diesel engine. EPA est. 23 city/30 hwy mpg (2WD).
Kelley Blue Book (KBB) is one of the most well-respected names in the automotive industry. It is one of consumers’ most relied on sources when it comes to making a decision during the buying process. Every year, KBB does a Brand Image study utilizing information from over 12,000 vehicle shoppers. This deals with their perceptions of auto brands and factors that go into choosing which nameplate to purchase. The winner of their “Most Refined Brand Award” for the fourth consecutive year in a row is GMC.
“The extra attention to design and detail found across GMC’s lineup has clearly resonated with American consumers,” said Nerad.
In the past, KBB has cited GMC’s premium Denali trim as part of their reasoning behind choosing the brand as the recipient of the award. The luxurious trim level accounts for over 25 percent of GMC’s vehicle sales. The brand sold its one millionth Denali trim at the beginning of 2017, starting the year off on a successful note.
We at Wiesner of Huntsville are proud to contribute to GMC’s ongoing success by serving our community and providing the bold, capable, and sophisticated vehicles the brand is known for producing. If you want to check out KBB’s “Most Refined Brand,” stop by our dealership today.
General Motors brought the mid-size GMC Canyon pickup back to the lineup for the 2015 model year, and now they’re looking to capitalize on the market. For the 2016 model year, the GMC Canyon’s mileage will top the segment. The truck is available in both two-wheel and four-wheel drive versions.
The 2016 GMC Canyon will receive the addition of a diesel engine that earns an EPA-estimated 22 city/31 hwy mpg for two-wheel drive and 20 city/29 hwy mpg for four-wheel drive.
Approved by the EPA with a “certificate of conformity,” the mid-size pickup’s diesel engine puts the 2016 Ram 1500 3-liter EcoDiesel V6, capable of 29 hwy mpg, in second place.
The Duramax 2.8-liter four-cylinder turbodiesel engine pumps out a massive 181 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque. Equipped with a 21-gallon tank, the truck offers a highway range of 651 miles between fill-ups in two-wheel drive versions. The diesel engine is available on the SLE and SLT crew cab models.
There’s no word on when the latest Canyons will roll into dealerships, but orders have been open for a few weeks now. So far, the 2015 Canyon has sold nearly 25,000 units.

For many, many reasons, people are not supposed to use cell phones while driving, as we all know very well. However, we also know that we still need to be connected to our phones while we drive. Fortunately, technologies like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are making that a safe and accessible reality now by allowing you to synchronize your phone with the car’s infotainment system.
These new technologies will be available on select 2016 GMC models, especially the Canyon, Yukon, and Sierra. “GMC IntelliLink is taking another step forward with this simple and intuitive functionality that makes phones and vehicles work better together,” Duncan Aldred, vice president of GMC Sales and Marketing, said. “Like other GMC features, from OnStar 4G LTE connectivity and active safety features, it’s technology designed to enhance the driving experience without intruding on it.”
CarPlay will be available on those select vehicles right from the beginning of the 2016 model year, followed by Android Auto capability later in the 2016 model run. Come see us here at Wiesner of Huntsville to learn more about these technologies, our great vehicles, and all the apps CarPlay and Android Auto support!
Each year, WardsAuto puts together their list of the best car interiors, highlighting which new vehicles best blend comfort, function, and style on the inside. This year, the 2015 GMC Canyon was chosen as one of Ward’s 10 Best Interiors.
It’s no surprise to us that the 2015 Canyon would be placed on this coveted list. The vehicle is frequently considered to be one of the most luxurious in its class, while maintaining the affordability of a non-official “luxury” car.
This balance of price and quality is part of what put the 2015 Canyon on the list, according to the website’s editor-in-chief, who points out that “shoppers need not buy a loaded full-size pickup” to get everything the 2015 Canyon has to offer.
If you haven’t had the chance to snuggle yourself into a 2015 Canyon yet, we recommend you check it out here at Wiesner of Huntsville. Let us know your thoughts on the 2015 GMC Canyon interior in the comments.
General Motors has announced the 2015 GMC Sierra Elevation Edition pricing and it’s sure to show you that elevated standards don’t have to come at a higher price. You might not have thought that the GMC Sierra, one of the most popular and capable full-size pickups on the market, could even get any better. But the folks at GMC, as usual, have proved that idea wrong with the all-new 2015 Sierra Carbon Editions. These new trucks, the standard Carbon, Carbon 20, and Carbon 22, all add much more style and sex appeal to an already robust and powerful truck.
“The beauty of the new Sierra lies in its strength and sophistication,” said Stuart Pierce, Sierra marketing manager. “But for customers wanting to stand out and make a strong statement, the Sierra Carbon Edition models are the answer.”
Each version of the 2015 Sierra Carbon Edition comes with its very own charms and bells and whistles, but they all feature some of the same things—such as a black painted grille, many other exterior body accents, and a uber-cool cargo lighting box. The 2014 GMC Yukon should adopt the hip-hop favorite “All I Do is Win” as its new theme song—because, when it comes to J.D. Power surveys, the Yukon simply always wins. With its latest victory, a top rating in the Automotive Performance, Execution, and Layout (APEAL) Study, the Yukon has now been ranked highest in its segment in three separate J.D. Power surveys just this year. The Yukon also top home top honors for Initial Quality and Dependability among full-size SUVs.
“Recognizing the Yukon demonstrates the effort and attention to detail given by our engineers and designers,” Duncan Aldred, who serves as vice president of both Buick and GMC, said. “These awards reinforce our focus on putting the customer at the center of everything we do from the first visit to the dealership, to the drive home, or 10 years down the road.”
As Aldred hinted, these awards for the Yukon aren’t just pie-in-the-sky titles awarded by so-called “experts.” These are rankings determined by carefully created surveys—surveys answered and returned by people just like you. So, if you want to check the people’s unanimous choice as the best full-size SUV on the market, come see us at Wiesner of Huntsville. We’ll give you the grand tour—and even let you take a test drive—of the powerful and dependable 2014 Yukon.
While the end-of-year homemade cars and cookies are a great way to show your appreciation for your children’s teacher, GM has come up with something even better—an educator discount. Through January 2, 2015, current employees of a public or private school, university or college are eligible for the new GM Educator Discount program. Through this program, they will receive a significant discount on the purchase or lease of a new 2015 or 2014 Chevrolet, Buick or GMC vehicle.
“GM values the work our educators and support staff are doing across the country to create a strong, responsible workforce for the future,” said Linda Stouffer, manager of Vehicle Purchase Programs. “The GM Educator Discount is our way of showing our support and appreciation for everyone in the education community.”
The only cars that are not eligible for the discount program are the 2014 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 and Spark EV, so tell the teachers in your life to stop in to Wiesner of Huntsville today to receive a discount on all GM vehicles!
When looking to buy a new car, what is one of the top factors that help you determine the best vehicle for your needs? For many, fuel economy ranks at the top right next to safety and reliability. For the 2015 model year, Chevy and GMC are working to continue giving customers what they are looking for – better fuel economy.
The 2015 Chevy Tahoe and Suburban and the 2015 GMC Yukon and Yukon XL will all see an increase in gas mileage. Based on EPA estimates, the full-size SUVs are rated at 23 miles to the gallon on the highway and 16 in the city with the standard 5.3-liter engine. That increases fuel efficiency almost 10 percent on the highway and seven percent on the city streets.
The 6.2-liter V8 engine outfitted in the Yukon Denali and Yukon XL Denali provides best in class power and handling. Combined with two-wheel drive, they deliver 15 city mpg and 21 mpg on the highway.
We at Wiesner of Huntsville just made your car shopping process a little bit easier. Now that we’ve established Chevy and GMC full-size SUVs have a lock on the fuel-economy department; stop by and we can show how they perform in the safety, reliability, performance, and comfort departments as well.
