Charging Made Easier on the Next-Generation Chevrolet Volt

The Chevrolet Volt is perhaps one of the most underappreciated cars in the United States. Ask anyone who owns and drives ones and they’ll tell you how much they love it.

Currently, more than 80% of all trips by Volt owners are electric only, meaning that charging the Volt is pretty simple. To make the next-generation Chevrolet Volt even more appealing, charging will be even easier.

One big change will be GPS location-based charging. With this system, owners can program their Volt to only charge at home during specific hours, such as off-peak hours for the lowest energy costs. The Volt will recognize when it is at its “home” location and will automatically adjust to those settings.

Owners will also be able to check the Volt’s charge level at a glance with intuitive indicator lights at the top of the instrument panel and on the available illuminated charge port. The Volt will also emit specific tones to indicate when it is charging and when the charge port door is left open after unplugging it.

The all-new 2016 Chevrolet Volt will make its debut at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit in January.

A 4.3-liter V6 is the first of the three, offering 285 horsepower and 305 lb-ft of torque, while achieving an EPA-rating of 24 mpg highway. For the 5.3-liter V8 engine, the power is boosted to 355 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque, while achieving 23 mpg highway. Finally, the most powerful engine option is a 6.2-liter V8, which churns out 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque, with a respectable 21 mpg highway.

Chevrolet Suburban is Going Camping with New Tailgating Add-Ons

The Chevrolet Suburban is going outdoorsy with its newest tailgating innovation. The furniture company, Workshop, which specializes in building furniture out of recycled wood, has built table and bench tailgating add-ons to be implemented into the Premium Outdoors edition of the Suburban. All of the wood used for the tables has come from purposefully deconstructed Detroit homes.

As the industry’s original SUV, the Suburban has historical roots in Detroit, and with its 80th anniversary passing, it has a legacy to preserve alongside its new wooden accessories. It’s the longest running nameplate in the whole industry, and it plans on staying that way for a long time.

“Using salvaged materials like this is more than simply recycling and keeping valuable materials out of a landfill – it’s about preserving something tangible from Detroit’s history,” said James Willer of Workshop. “That house may no longer exist, but a piece of its legacy lives on.”

General Motors has initiated a clever and memorable marketing campaign based around the Chevrolet Colorado. The commercials play off the notion that trucks only attract certain buyers, namely, guys who are really into trucks. Paul Edwards, US vice-president of marketing for Chevrolet, said, “The films are centered around the idea that there is an inner truck guy in everyone.”

These commercials have somewhat of a mockumentary style. In one of them, we meet a man looking to find a date online. Chevrolet decides to help him out by loaning him a Colorado.  He takes the Colorado on a surfing adventure, and then photos and videos of his adventure are uploaded to his online profile. We are told this increases his profile views by 3,000 percent.

In another, we’re asked, “Can a truck make you more handsome?” We see focus groups composed of guys with beards, children, housewives. They are all shown two pictures. One shows a guy standing in front of a generic compact sedan.  In the other, the same guy is standing in front of a Chevrolet Colorado.  The guy standing in front of the truck is unanimously chosen as most handsome.  Of course!
