Chevrolet Leads Industry with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay Integration

For the 2016 model year, Chevrolet will offer Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility in 14 models, including the all-new 2016 Cruze that will be available at Wiesner of Huntsville by the end of June.

That will put Chevrolet ahead of the competition by offering Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility in more vehicles than any other automotive brand.

The technology will be accessible via Chevy’s 7-inch MyLink infotainment system (and 8-inch version that will be compatible with Apple CarPlay at the beginning of the 2016 model year).

“For most of us, our smartphones are essential,” said Mary Barra, CEO of General Motors. “Partnering with Apple and Google to offer CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility across the widest range of models in the industry is a great example of how Chevrolet continues to democratize technology that’s important to our customers.”

The move once again makes Chevrolet one of the first brands to introduce new customer-centric innovations (e.g. Siri Eyes Free functionality). Chevrolet and GM also offer OnStar 4G LTE connectivity with Wi-Fi hotspot. In other words, if technology and staying connected are important to you, you’ve just got to get a Chevy! Demand for GM’s Midsize Pickup Trucks Drives Production Up

There’s an easy way to tell how good a vehicle really is: check out how well it’s selling. For the 2015 GMC Canyon and 2015 Chevy Colorado, that spells success. In fact, they’re both selling way more than General Motors could have anticipated.

Back in March, GM added a third shift at its Wentzville, MO, factory, bringing total full-time employment to 3,500 hourly workers. Yet it’s already become clear that this won’t be enough. Demand for the two midsize pickup trucks is simply through the roof.

In response, GM plans to hire yet another 1,000 new “flex” workers for the Saturday and Sunday shifts to build an additional 2,000 pickups a month.

It even resorted to reshuffling and optimizing the working schedule, eliminating a six-minute break in production between shifts. That adds up to 18 minutes of production a day and more than 3,500 trucks a year.
