GMC Adds Apple CarPlay and Android Auto Capability to 2016 Models

For many, many reasons, people are not supposed to use cell phones while driving, as we all know very well. However, we also know that we still need to be connected to our phones while we drive. Fortunately, technologies like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are making that a safe and accessible reality now by allowing you to synchronize your phone with the car’s infotainment system.

These new technologies will be available on select 2016 GMC models, especially the Canyon, Yukon, and Sierra. “GMC IntelliLink is taking another step forward with this simple and intuitive functionality that makes phones and vehicles work better together,” Duncan Aldred, vice president of GMC Sales and Marketing, said. “Like other GMC features, from OnStar 4G LTE connectivity and active safety features, it’s technology designed to enhance the driving experience without intruding on it.”

CarPlay will be available on those select vehicles right from the beginning of the 2016 model year, followed by Android Auto capability later in the 2016 model run. Come see us here at Wiesner of Huntsville to learn more about these technologies, our great vehicles, and all the apps CarPlay and Android Auto support!

Chevrolet Leads Industry with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay Integration

For the 2016 model year, Chevrolet will offer Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility in 14 models, including the all-new 2016 Cruze that will be available at Wiesner of Huntsville by the end of June.

Android Auto and Apple CarPlay

That will put Chevrolet ahead of the competition by offering Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility in more vehicles than any other automotive brand.

The technology will be accessible via Chevy’s 7-inch MyLink infotainment system (and 8-inch version that will be compatible with Apple CarPlay at the beginning of the 2016 model year).

“For most of us, our smartphones are essential,” said Mary Barra, CEO of General Motors. “Partnering with Apple and Google to offer CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility across the widest range of models in the industry is a great example of how Chevrolet continues to democratize technology that’s important to our customers.”

The move once again makes Chevrolet one of the first brands to introduce new customer-centric innovations (e.g. Siri Eyes Free functionality). Chevrolet and GM also offer OnStar 4G LTE connectivity with Wi-Fi hotspot. In other words, if technology and staying connected are important to you, you’ve just got to get a Chevy!
