If you weren’t already excited for the upcoming “next-level” V-Series from Cadillac, you will be now that we know the name this premium version of luxury cars will bear. The next-level V-Series from Cadillac will be known as Blackwing.
Blackwing versions will slot above the Cadillac CT4-V and CT5-V, both of which debuted in May this year. These models will be officially known as Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing and Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing, adding even more enhancements than the V-Series versions of these cars.
The name Blackwing refers to the classic “merlette” figure seen on old-school Cadillac badges. A merlette is a black bird symbol that has been used in French heraldry for centuries. Its initial use in Cadillac iconography is a nod to the French roots of the Cadillac name. Antoine de la Mothe Cadillac was a late-15th and early-16th century French explorer and the founder of the city of Detroit.
There are some rumors that the Blackwing line could potentially spin off into its own brand. We’d love to see the high-performance, high-luxury developments that might come from an expansion of the Blackwing family. For now, we are just holding our breath for the full release of the very first Blackwing models.
For now, while you wait for them, you can find the CTS-V and CT6-V at Wiesner of Huntsville.
